I’ve found the HERRD learning portal a great resource for both my kids aged 12 and 9. It filled a big gap I had in finding classes when my eldest hit high school age, that were Australian based and engaging.

“The HERRD Kids’ Portal is a brilliant resource for home educating families as Jillina puts together a variety of quality sessions so there really is something for everyone. Everything is in one place which makes it easy to access. Many sessions are recorded too which is handy at times being able to watch the replays. Our portal makes it easy to jump into fun, engaging online workshops, activities, and events with like-minded learners. It’s perfect for students who don't always have easy access to in-person opportunities because of distance, small communities, or other challenges.

How do I sign up for the HERRD Kids Learning Portal?

Families can sign up via our website. Once you’ve created an account and selected a membership, you’ll have access to one term of workshops and resources. No long-term membership lock-ins. Please sign up with a parent's name, then register each child inside the portal.

How often are workshops held?

Our Term 4 program will be released soon. Term 1 2026 will run for 8 weeks, including orientation week, 7 weeks of live workshops, and a bonus catch-up week (week 9). Most sessions run from Monday to Thursday. You’ll receive a Calendar at sign-up with the current schedule (please note, session details may change).

What time zone are the workshops in?

All workshop times are listed in AEST (Brisbane time). Please adjust for your local state or territory, including daylight savings. If you save an event to your Google Calendar, it should automatically convert to your local time zone.

Are the workshops live or pre-recorded?

Most workshops are live and interactive, allowing kids to participate, ask questions, and connect with others. Many workshops or sessions may be recorded and available for later viewing.

What age groups are the workshops designed for?

Workshops are offered for a range of age groups, mostly from primary (year 3) to High School students, with some activities for younger siblings. Each workshop lists the recommended age range or learning stage to help families choose what suits them best.

What kinds of subjects or themes do the workshops cover?

We run workshops on literature (like book clubs and creative writing), science, nature, coding, art, cooking, STEM and more. There’s a mix of fun, educational, and social content. Check the calendar at sign-up for the full schedule.

Who runs the workshops?

Workshops are run by a mix of paid education providers and volunteers. As some sessions rely on volunteers, details may occasionally change.

Can I suggest a workshop or topic?

Yes! But usually for the following term. We welcome ideas from families. We love hearing what your kids are interested in learning. Ideas may be incorporated into the next term's portal offerings.

Do I need special equipment or software to access workshops?

You will need a stable internet connection and a device (computer or tablet). Most workshops are run via Zoom or a similar platform, such as Microsoft Teams.

Are workshops suitable for neurodiverse learners?

Yes, we have students of all ages and abilities. Our students are very supportive of each other. We aim to create inclusive, flexible, and respectful learning environments. If your child has specific needs, you can contact us so we can help support your experience.

Is there a fee to join?

Yes, there is a small administration fee for each term. This helps cover the costs of running the portal, technology, and paying guest presenters.

Can I try it out before joining?

We may occasionally offer public workshops or trial sessions that non-members can attend. More to come.
